Aerospace Engineering
Nelson Engineering Co. provides engineering services to aerospace operations - including support of commercial/private, NASA and United States Air Force programs. We have practical experience with unique aerospace operations, including hypergolic fuels, cryogens, launch deluge waste waters, flight hardware processing clean rooms and protective systems. We understand NASA and USAF regulations and procedures governing engineering requirements and environmental operations and compliance.
Payload support trade studies on ground support equipment (GSE) including the Payload Environmental Control System (ECS), Portable Payload ECS, Hill Hoist (Umbilical Separation) System and Deluge Cooling Water System at CCAFS Space Launch Complex (SLC) 37B, and the Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB) SLC-6 Payload ECS.
- Human Rating assessments for existing Boeing Delta IV launch facilities and ground support equipment when the Delta IV was being considered by NASA as a Space Shuttle replacement boost vehicle.
- Initial development of an acoustic chamber for Orion test and checkout at the Operations and Checkout building on Kennedy Space Center.
- Infrastructure requirement development per the processing requirements of the Ares and Orion spacecraft. Our analysis addressed the requirements for construction of the Orion spacecraft, receipt and stacking of first and second stages of the Ares I launch vehicle, integration of the Ares and Orion, rollout of the spacecraft to the launch pad, and launch at KSC.
- Facility engineering services for the base operations contractors at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) and CCAFS (USAF's 45th Space Wing).
- Environmental engineering and compliance services and maintenance management consulting services for the United Space Alliance (USA) at KSC.
- Environmental and safety engineering support services (including hazards analyses) for The Boeing Company on the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle program at CCAFS since 1997.
- Troubleshooting and analysis of electronics for a long-range phased-array radar facility at Eglin Air Force Base.
- Environmental support contractor to the Lockheed Martin Team on the X-33 Program. The X-33 was the flight test prototype of a space vehicle intended to replace the Space Shuttle.
Our engineers also have launch complex conceptual design and layout experience at both CCAFS and VAFB.
Our company is proud of our space industry heritage. The industry is exciting and offers unique challenges to provide commercially cost-effective engineering services. We welcome the challenge.
