Facility System Design Engineering
Nelson Engineering Company is proud of our expertise and ability to offer extensive and comprehensive engineering capabilities. The result has been satisfied and repeat customers. We strive for innovative and cost-effective solutions. Our mission is to provide "Quality Services, on Schedule at a Competitive cost" to our customers. Our conscientious team and client orientated innovative approaches are key to maintaining long-term relationships with our customers.
We provide a full range of high-quality engineering design services and strive to foster long term relationships with our clients. During the design effort, design reviews are conducted to ensure that the design meets the customers' requirements and expectations. Our integrated team approach results in completion of design projects on-time and within the rigid quality standards established by the customer. Nelson Engineering has provided complete systems engineering design solutions and we continually look to "leading edge" technologies in the developmental process.
Unlike a typical architecture and engineering firm, Nelson Engineering Co. has extensive experience designing mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems to meet rigid sets of requirements such as those in place for US Air Force, Navy, and NASA installations. We specialize in designing HVAC, fire protection, communication, building automation control and other types of systems for unique industrial facilities such as: spacecraft processing facilities, launch control centers, ordnance and rocket propellant checkout and storage buildings, etc. Many of these facilities contain clean room environment, extreme ceiling heights, and other challenging design requirements.
Our design engineers are equipped with leading industry design tools such as the latest versions of Elite Software's FIRE for hydraulic fire suppression system calculations and Carmel Software's Loadsoft for HVAC heating and cooling load calculations. We most commonly use the latest versions of AutoDesk's AutoCAD to assemble detailed engineering drawings and Solidworks® FEA to perform robust structural analysis.
Our innovative and cost-effective design solutions include:
- Design of the Space Launch Complex 2 Second Stage Direct Hypergolic Propellant Loading System at Vandenberg Air Force Base, with Jones Edmunds and Associates, Inc.
- Conducted a detailed design, engineering and cost options analyses for constructing new Thermal Vacuum and Vibro-Acoustic Chambers at KSC and retrofitting East and West Vacuum Chambers in the KSC Operations and Checkout (O&C) Building.
- Systems engineering and design support for Titan, Delta, and Atlas launch support and payload processing facilities located at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS). Produce detailed system design packages for HVAC and fire protection system installations at ordnance storage, payload processing, and launch control facilities.
- System design engineering for NASA's Damage Assessment and Recovery Team (DART). Performed analysis of damage after each hurricane and compared conditions with facility mission and user requirements.
- Facility engineering and design services for Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC), Andros Island, Bahamas. Designs include boat ramps, electrical systems, Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN) tower refurbishment and shelter replacement, and base housing.
- Troubleshooting and analysis of electronics for a long-range phased-array radar facility at Eglin Air Force Base.
- Systems engineering analysis for the replacement air cleanliness verification system at the NAVSTAR Global Positioning System Processing Facility (NPF) under the Launch Operations Support Contract (LOSC) and USAF processing requirements for the GPS IIF Program. Designed upgraded system with common replacement components and interfaces to the existing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
- Environmental designs for wastewater treatment plants, wastewater conveyances and storm water systems for commercial and aerospace applications.
